The Sierra Greenway
Introducing environmentally friendly tourism into rural areas, Via Verdes were launched 1993 in Spain. This scenic railway route, where trains never passed, was Voted the best Greenway in Europe in 2009. And Via Verde de la Sierra certainly is among the most beautiful Via Verdes in Spain. Running for 36km through mountainous, olive-tree covered country, one can admire some of Andalucia's most carefully protected natural monuments.
Cycle across bridges and viaducts, through 30 tunnels, along river banks…Torch or headlamp highly recommended.
This paradise for avid cyclists, families, hikers and nature lovers is well known for local tourists, but it doesn’t seem well known among foreign campers. About a 1-hour drive from Seville or 1 ½ hours from Malaga, it is easily reachable from both inland and coast.
