Rodalquilar Valley — Cabo de Gata
One of the most attractive places of Cabo de Gata, Rodalquilar Valley has it all. Unspoilt nature, pristine beach, charming little town and…gold mines! Even though its golden rush is a thing of past, this area is recomended as a good overnight spot. Urbex fans will be delighted, but it won't dissatisfy others too.
The valley of Rodalquilar is not really a valley but a volcanic crater. It extends to the sea shore, to attractive beach – El Playazo de Rodalquilar. Hillsides and beaches of this valley are full of history – from the Phoenicians who occupied these lands, through Arabs, pirates, prospectors and finally movie stars. Hollywood has benefited from the beauty of Rodalquilar Valley to shoot films that we have all seen – such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and many others.
Enjoy the day on magnificent beach El Playazo de Rodalquilar.
Not the largest, but definitely one of the most beautiful beaches in Cabo de Gata natural park. Fine golden sand, crystalline water and progressive sea entrance make El Playazo an ideal beach for families with little explorers.
It is secluded enough, but easy reach by vehicle of any size. Out of season there is plenty of parking space, high season tends to get pretty busy, so getting there as early as sunrise and having breakfast on the beach is definitely worth the effort.
