Azur Camping Auwaldsee is on the outskirts of the city of Ingolstadt. Though it is close to the city, you wouldn’t know it once you have checked in and set up camp here. The whole site is well forested and the trees create nice natural separation between campers. You can also see the lake, which runs down one whole side of the campsite and the back of the site opens onto it. During the summer, the trees provide much appreciated shade, and of course having the lake on your doorstep is a huge bonus!

The reception at Azur Camping Auwaldsee is very friendly and welcoming. There is a small shop within the building and you can also grab extra gas bottles here if you’re running low.

When you drive in, the sheer size of the campsite is amazing! It does feel as though you are driving into a small forest.
It is worth a look around before you pick your spot – some are lightly gravelled and therefore a little flatter, others are tucked away on the side with a hint of a lake view (bushes, shrubery and trees would definitely block most of this view during summer). You might also want to choose your site depending on how close to the toilet building you want to be, as it can be quite a walk to one of the two available blocks!

Within the sanitary block you will find immaculately kept toilets, showers, and a laundry room. There is also a baby’s shower found within a separate family room, which is a nice touch for young families. During winter, it is very well heated and a treat to use!

As with all the Azur campsite, they have some pitches that are specifically designed for campers with dogs.

There are 10 spots that are completely fenced, so you can park up, let out your four-legged family members, and they can run free in your own fenced garden. This is a lovely addition to these campsites and can make the holiday all the more enjoyable for those that have pets with them.

Of course, one of the reasons for choosing this campsite is the fact that it is pretty much on the shore of Lake Auwald. There is a designated beach area where entry to the lake is easier for swimming, though there are access points all around the lake.

It is a very popular walking area, and during the hotter months it must get quite bust. To have this on the doorstep of your camper is rather excellent!
We loved the fact that though this site is so close to the city, you would not know it
At night it is really quiet and it is thoughtfully laid out to make you feel as though you are surrounded by nature. We stayed during winter and loved the warm sanitary building.

You might struggle to find a perfectly flat pitch here to be prepared to crack out your wedges if you want to be straight! Also, there is no WiFi, but cellular reception is great.
