Flåm Camping and Hostel

A beautiful campsite on a former farm with a traditional, Norwegian vibe

Flåm Camping & Hostel is located in the village of Flåm, in the stunning Flåmsdalen Valley, at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the amazing Sognefjord. As you can imagine, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty during your entire stay here.

The famous Flåmsbana railway starts right in the village and is often described as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. It’s also one of the steepest standard-gauge railways on Earth — 80% of the ride runs on a gradient of 5.5%. The train passes through spectacular landscapes, alongside the historic Rallar Road, past dramatic cliffs, foaming waterfalls, and through 20 tunnels as it climbs from sea level to Myrdal, which sits at 867 meters above sea level.

Around the campsite, you’ll find plenty of hiking trails, and you can also go biking, swimming, or fishing in the Aurlandsfjord. A scenic route across the Aurlandsfjellet — also known as the Snow Road because snow remains there until late June — is another unforgettable experience.

The campsite began in 1972 on local farmland, and you can still feel its history today.

A large part of the area is located in an old orchard, and the Håland family — now running the campsite in its fourth generation — still keeps chickens and sheep for their own use.

Tent campers can pitch their tents beneath fruit trees that provide shade on sunny days and shelter during rain.

There are also a few covered shelters with picnic tables scattered across the grounds, so you don't have to worry too much about unpredictable Norwegian weather.

The family is constantly improving the campsite. A brand-new sanitary building, including a spacious, well-equipped kitchen and laundry room, opened in July 2025. If you cook there, don’t miss the stunning view from the kitchen window!

Ambassador’s Opinion

What a gem this extraordinary place in Flåm is!

We loved the old trees and wild flowers, and even cleaning our camper became a pleasant moment — really!

We spent two nights at Flåm Camping, took the very first train ride up with Flåmsbana in the morning, and rode back down on our bikes. We can truly recommend both the journey and the campsite — a beautiful and memorable experience.

Be advised

There is no Wi-Fi at the campsite — intentionally — so you can fully enjoy nature and soak in the lovely Norwegian atmosphere with all your senses.

In high season, if you arrive late, there might not be any pitches with electricity left, but don’t worry — the area is large, and they’ll almost certainly be able to offer you a spot without electricity.

Due to cruise ships bringing visitors from around the world, it’s highly recommended to book your Flåmsbana train ticket in advance.
