We are sure that almost all of you would recognize this iconic pier on Lovatnet Lake!
Sande Camping
The photographs are well known — one even made it to the cover of a travel magazine about Scandinavia. And now you know exactly where it is: at Sande Camping in Lodalen, Norway. If you're lucky enough, you might be able to capture your own stunning shot for your photo album or social media account.
Sande Camping
The campsite offers a breathtaking view across Lovatnet Lake, surrounded by dramatic mountains. Almost all the pitches are right on the lakeshore, so nothing interrupts the spectacular view. You’ll find everything you need on-site: showers, toilets, a laundry room, a very well-equipped kitchen, an indoor dining area and outdoor terrace, a playground, sauna, and even a small grocery shop at the reception.
Sande Camping
The whole campsite is very well maintained and has been run by the same family since the 1960s. Back then, people started coming and asking for a place to pitch their tents — they were amazed by this location. So the Sande family started this campsite, and I can tell you they’re still improving it every year. They’re incredibly helpful and will do their best to make your holiday unforgettable.
Sande Camping
Lovatnet Lake is perfect for a variety of water sports, such as stand-up paddling, swimming or kayaking. SUP boards, kayaks, rowboats, and paddle boats are available for rent — just ask at reception.
Sande Camping
Beautiful hikes also start from Sande Camping. One of the highlights is Kjenndalsbreen, the most easily accessible glacier arm in Norway. The walk to the glacier is on a well-maintained, flat path — a great family-friendly hike that takes about 20 minutes.
Sande Camping
You’re also welcome to explore the whole Loen Valley, with its towering mountains and unbelievably green water.
Sande Camping
And here’s great news for fishing lovers — trout fishing in the lake is free! You can use a rod, otter board, or net to try and catch your dinner. If the winter is cold enough, you might even get the chance to go ice skating on Lovatnet Lake — the ice can reach a thickness of 60 cm!

Ambassador’s Opinion
Come and experience the true Norwegian atmosphere and kindness — just like we did.
We didn’t have much luck with the weather during our stay at Sande Camping, but we still had a wonderful time. A morning swim in the lake was beautifully refreshing, and we had a lovely chat with the Sande family.

Be advised
Please note that the iconic pier pitches don’t have electricity. Also, since it's freshwater, there can be a lot of mosquitoes in summer — don’t forget to bring repellent!
