The town has a unique architectural style influenced by several civilizations, which makes it one of Albania’s main cultural centers. On the hill above the town, you’ll find the ruins of the Citadel of Berat from the 13th century – a fortress overlooking the town.

In 2008, Berat was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Berat Caravan Camping is located just 13 km from the town and is an excellent base for visiting this Albanian gem.

The Xhemalaj family established Berat Caravan Camping in their garden in 2013. Since then, they’ve been improving the site year by year. There are three beautifully furnished rooms available for rent, along with a new sanitary building.

The lush green garden surrounding the house is the pride of Mrs. Xhemalaj, who takes great care of it. You’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay: spotless showers and toilets, laundry and dishwashing areas, chemical toilet and grey water disposal, a playground, and a well air-conditioned restaurant.

You can also enjoy your meals outside on the terrace, surrounded by palm trees and other amazing Mediterranean plants.

Some pitches are under shade netting, others beneath trees, and some in open space. The campsite is fenced, and the gate is locked at night for your safety.
You can buy delicious homemade products like wine or olive oil made by the Xhemalaj family. The quality is excellent, and the prices are fair.
Water fun not only for children
About 300 meters from the campsite, there is a public swimming pool. It includes two large pools with sunbeds, a bar, and a restaurant serving dishes like pizza or kebab.

The area is usually not too crowded, and the shallower pool is ideal for children while the other one is suitable for swimming.
We arrived in the afternoon because we needed to do our laundry, and we were warmly welcomed by Mr. Xhemalaj, who made us a delicious iced coffee. Later, we visited the nearby swimming pools and, in the evening, enjoyed the excellent cooking of Mrs. Xhemalaj. We also received helpful advice on where to park our camper safely and for free in Berat.

Be advised
If you’d like to eat at the campsite restaurant, it’s best to let them know in advance. However, the lovely Mrs. Xhemalaj will likely do her best to prepare dinner for you – even if you arrive late. Please also note that the public pool usually closes around 5:00 PM.
