Fantastic camper parking in the historic fishing village of Glesvær

Glesvær is one of the oldest trading posts on Norway’s west coast. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was the largest and most important fishing village on the island of Sotra. Many old boathouses and buildings have been preserved and beautifully restored. The trading post has been in the hands of the Bakke family since 1890! If you spend a night here, you’ll truly feel the history of this unique place — it’s amazing to be part of such an authentic Norwegian story.

Glesvaer Flyover

There is space for only four campers at this spot, which means you’ll enjoy a peaceful and quiet night. The sanitary facilities — including showers, toilets, and laundry — are just 50 meters away, behind Glesvær Kafe. Everything is very clean, and usage is free (except for the laundry).

While only parking is permitted here, you’re welcome to use the three stone picnic tables near the shore, offering a fantastic view. Of course, no one will mind if you set up your camping chair and enjoy your morning coffee right outside your camper.

Down by the shore, you’ll find a charming swimming spot with a ladder and a small beach house for changing clothes. Be warned: the ocean water is very refreshing. You can also fish from the rocks or rent a boat to head out to sea — just ask the owners or check the website for more information.

While the menu isn’t extensive, the food is delicious. You’ll find fish & chips, fish soup, pizza, steak, ice cream, coffee, cake — everything you need for a satisfying meal. There's also a souvenir shop inside; chances are you’ll find something to bring home as a memory or a gift. If you like to hike, look at the board at picnic tables, you will find something suitable for you.

Ambassador’s Opinion

We were really surprised by this lovely spot

We had the place to ourselves, enjoyed a delicious dinner at Glesvær Kafe, and slept very well after a day trip to Bergen — which is only a 45-minute drive from here. And yes… the sea was really very cold!
