Sanitary facilities are good and clean, nothing fancy here! Several different blocks are spread out on the terrain so you are never too far from the facilities.
Mortonhall Caravanning and Camping Park – the reception
You receive a friendly welcome here and a lot of info about the site and connections to Edinburgh
Mortonhall Caravanning and Camping Park
The reception is friendly and offers a nice selection of food, fresh bread in the morning, and some technical items for camper vans. There is a free wifi zone around the reception area, and on the campground, there is payable wifi only (limited).
Mortonhall Caravanning and Camping Park: dishwashing station
There is a bar and restaurant on-site as well as a laundry and designated BBQ area. For late arrivals, a ‘park up area’ outside the campgrounds is found near the entrance. The outdoor dishwashing stations are located at circular pergolas. The dumping area for grey water is ‘basic'. Note: the dumping station for toilet cassettes is called ‘elsan' in the UK.
Mortonhall Caravanning and Camping Park: one of the sanitary blocks
There is a bus stop with frequent buses at 5 minutes walking from the campsite. You pay your fare in cash with the driver or buy a scratch card for the day at the reception – we have never seen this system before but it is a clever idea!
Mortonhall Caravanning and Camping Park – lovely pitches
The bus to the city takes about 20 min, and it is a nice drive along pleasant suburbs. There is a stop near Edinburgh Castle, a perfect start for sightseeing.
Edinburg : National Museum of Scotland, courtyard
Edinburgh is a fantastic city and the location of this campsite makes for an easy day trip
Mortonhall Caravanning and Camping Park – cute cabins
Compact and hilly, Edinburgh has a medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town, and standing high above Scotland’s capital is Edinburgh Castle, home to Scotland’s crown jewels. Between both city parts is a huge leafy park area, used for walks, picnics and even sunbathing! We liked ‘the Vennel', a small street with an excellent view on the castle and the great National Museum of Scotland, free to visit and a true architectural gem with an eclectic collection, fun for all and with a nice roof terrace.
