A spacious campsite on the lake with great facilities and plenty of activities

Austria has many famous lakes with campsites on their shores and many of them are incredibly expensive! At Camping Ottenstein, you can enjoy camping on the lake and you won’t completely blow the budget. This spacious, terraced campsite has plenty of space for everyone, with generous pitches so that even if you have neighbours on both sides, you won’t be stepping on each other’s toes. There are a couple of houses with toilets and showers, so you don’t need to walk too far, wherever you set up your camp.

A few of the (more expensive) pitches have a view of the lake, which meanders around the campsite on all sides. The main action centre of the campsite is away from the pitches, which is great as it means it tends to stay quiet in the camping areas!

Close to the reception area is a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There is also a bread service here in the mornings, which you do not have to order in advance.

There are comfy chairs here that you can recline in and enjoy the view over the water.

Opposite from the restaurant is a small beach area where families tend to hang out, as it is easiest to enter the water here. You can also rent SUP boards, peddle boats, and small sailing boats.

If you enjoy being busy on the water all day, this is definitely the campsite for you! It’s also a lovely spot to dip in, cool off, and have a swim.

If you don’t want to be in the midst of all the families, you can always take one of the many small paths on the other side of the campsite down to another branch of the lake. Here, you might find that you are the only ones, and you can delve into the water in the peace and quiet.

There are some large fish in these waters, and if you fancy trying to fish them out make sure you get the appropriate licences in advance of your arrival.

A great choice to enjoy the lake

We really liked the size of the spots here and the amount of trees surrounding the camping areas is fantastic. Also, even though we don’t have a tent, the spots for tents here are fabulous, they are incredibly private and tucked into a forested area. Of course it’s great to be able to be at the water’s edge in 2 minutes too!

Be advised

Some of the spots are not very level, especially on the top field, so if you care about that, make sure you have your wedges with you to straighten out! Also, the WiFi only works around the reception and restaurant buildings.
