Old industrial steel mill reconverted to recreational area
Duisburg is situated in the Ruhr valley of Germany, still an area with lots of heavy industrial activity. In the 1980s a iron smelting plant was shut down and the city decided to transfer in into a recreational area ‘ Landschaftspark Duisburg Nord’. The plant is not a clean museum, everything is left to be. Campers can park (for free) across the road at the end of the parking lot, no facilities here except for a few trash cans but okay for a surprisingly quiet night in an industrial surrounding.
