Super nice, rural, green campsite on the riverside

We were here in September and had the place to ourselves, so we highly, highly recommend a visit here in the off season. It is amazing, so quiet, so dark, and you feel like you are in the middle of nature – we saw a beaver swimming in the river! There are a line of chestnut trees here too producing the biggest chestnuts we’ve ever found, so this is another reason to head here in the autumn.

Great value, everything here you need except for a shower (though this is open during July and August), we planned an overnight and stayed a while.

The only thing is there is no shopping in the neighbouring historical village, so come prepared!

It’s also probably not suitable for the very largest of mobile homes.

Just a few minutes' walk along the river brings you to the small village of Chambon.

This is such an old village, it is incredible that people live here in these historic structures!

The river has some deeper spots, so on hotter days it is definitely possible to dunk in a swim a bit.

There are some lovely trails along the river too, and 4kms away is a huge, impressive viaduct. We saw this when driving off, but it would certainly be possible to walk here too.

We loved this spot

Came for an overnight but stayed for as long as our supplies allowed us! We particularly enjoyed the quiet - nothing to hear here except for the river, and at night you can see so many stars.

Be advised

There is a sanitary block but the only thing that was open when we were there in the autumn was the toilet, which was fine for us! Electricity, water, and the unloading and loading station is always available.
It may also close for a month during January until mid-Feb – it is worth checking their website if you are planning to stop by during these months.
